Realme 12+ first impressions

Realme 12+ first impressions

Realme has expanded its 12 series to include four smartphones, including the Realme 12, Realme 12+, Realme 12 Pro, and Realme 12 Pro+. While we previously reviewed the Realme 12 Pro+, we now have the opportunity to unbox and explore the Realme 12+.

Packaged in a vibrant yellow box akin to its lineup counterparts, the Realme 12+ comes with essential accessories, including a protective case, a 67W power adapter, a charging cable, and a SIM ejector tool.

The Realme 12+ boasts a flat 6.67" 120Hz FullHD+ E4 AMOLED screen with HDR10+ certification. With a color display of 16.7 million and a 100% P3 color gamut, the panel reaches an impressive peak brightness of 2,000 nits. Notably, Rainwater Smart Touch technology enhances touch accuracy by detecting moisture on the screen or hands.

Equipped with a 16MP selfie camera featuring a 1/3" sensor, the display incorporates a centered punch-hole design. Additionally, a fingerprint scanner beneath the screen ensures swift and accurate unlocking, though its positioning could be more ergonomically favorable.

The rear of the Realme 12+ mirrors the design language of its Pro counterparts, featuring a 3D Jubilee Bracelet design interrupted by a circular camera island. Covered in dirt-resistant vegan leather, the phone offers both aesthetic appeal and practicality.

The camera island houses a 50MP primary lens with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro lens. Video recording capabilities include 1080p at 60FPS and 4K at 30FPS, accompanied by Master Camera filters inspired by iconic films.

While the camera island boasts a Polished Sunburst Dial pattern, the absence of the Golden Fluted Bezel seen in the Pro models somewhat detracts from its premium feel. The flat design, though less comfortable to hold, maintains a sleek aesthetic.

On the right frame are the volume rocker and power button, while the bottom houses the USB-C port, speaker grille, and dual-SIM slot. A 3.5mm headphone jack and secondary mic sit atop the device.

Under the hood, the Realme 12+ houses a Dimensity 7050 SoC, paired with 8GB RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. Running on Android 14-based Realme UI 5.0, the device promises two years of Android version upgrades and three years of security updates.

With a 5,000 mAh battery and 67W adapter, the Realme 12+ ensures fast and efficient charging. Notable features include 5G connectivity, an IP54 rating, Hi-Res Audio, and dual stereo speakers.

Available in various markets, including India, the Realme 12+ starts at INR20,999 ($255/€230), offering a compelling option within its segment.
