Free audio and video calls now available on X (Twitter)

Elon Musk's social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has expanded its audio and video calling feature to all users, eliminating the need for a premium subscription. This strategic move positions X as a direct competitor to platforms like Meta's WhatsApp.

Users, however, can only receive calls from accounts they follow or have in their contacts, with a prerequisite of prior direct message interaction. While default settings facilitate calls only with established contacts, users have the option to adjust settings to allow calls from anyone on the platform.

The update, initially available to premium iOS users, was later extended to Android users earlier this year.

To use free audio and video calls on X, Users can navigate to the direct messages section, tap the phone icon, select 'Audio Call' or 'Video Call,' and manage call settings in the app's top right corner. This enhancement aims to streamline communication for all X users, regardless of subscription status.
