Realme 12 Pro Review: Really Worth to Buy or Not?

Realme 12 Pro Review

Realme recently launched its latest smartphones, the Realme 12 Pro 5G and Realme 12 Pro+ 5G, as part of the new Realme 12 series. The Realme 12 Pro 5G has been put to the test in this review, exploring various aspects of the device after more than a week of use.

Realme 12 Pro Price in India

The Realme 12 Pro 5G is priced at Rs. 25,999 for the base 8GB RAM + 128GB variant and Rs. 26,999 for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. The phone comes in two color options, Navigator Beige and Submarine Blue.

Unboxing and Design

The unboxing experience includes a 67W charging brick, a USB Type-A to Type-C cable, a protective case, SIM ejector tool, and paperwork. The phone features a distinctive design, with a vegan leather finish on the rear panel and a camera module resembling a luxury watch dial, designed in collaboration with French luxury watchmaker Ollivier Savéo. The Submarine Blue variant, in particular, stands out with gold accents and a sunburst dial inside the camera module.

The phone has a good weight (196g), feels comfortable to hold, and has a slim appearance (8.75mm). Both the display and rear panel are curved, enhancing the phone's aesthetics. The front display maintains uniform thin bezels, resembling the Realme 11 Pro.

Specifications and Software

Equipped with a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor, Adreno 710 GPU, 8GB RAM, and storage options of 128GB or 256GB, the Realme 12 Pro 5G incorporates a Dynamic RAM feature that can add up to 8GB of additional VRAM from internal storage.

The device supports dual 5G SIM cards and features an in-display fingerprint scanner. The phone runs on Realme UI 5.0 based on Android 14, with promises of 2 years of software updates and 3 years of security updates.

Performance

While not heavily performance-oriented, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chip handles daily tasks and gaming effectively. Benchmark results may not be the highest, but the phone performs smoothly in day-to-day use. The Dynamic RAM feature compensates for the 8GB RAM limitation when needed.

Display and Audio

The Realme 12 Pro 5G boasts a curved 6.7-inch AMOLED panel with full-HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a maximum brightness of 800 nits. The display offers vibrant colors, sufficient brightness for indoor and outdoor use, and supports multiple color options. The phone features a dual speaker setup that produces loud audio with good separation.

Battery and Charging

With a 5,000mAh battery, the Realme 12 Pro 5G delivers a day's worth of usage, extending to over a day with reduced content consumption. The 67W fast charger efficiently charges the phone, claiming a full charge in 48 minutes, with actual testing showing a 43-minute charge from 10 to 100 percent.

Camera

The Realme 12 Pro 5G sports a triple rear camera setup, including a 50MP primary sensor with OIS, a new 32MP telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom, and an 8MP ultrawide sensor.

The cameras perform well in daylight, offering good details and vibrant colors. Low-light photography, however, exhibits reduced details, and night sky or landscape shots lack clarity. Selfie photos are decent in daylight but lose quality in low light.

The phone supports 4K video recording at 30fps and utilizes OIS stabilization in 1080p at 60fps, providing satisfactory video results.

Verdict

Priced at Rs. 25,999, the Realme 12 Pro 5G competes with other smartphones in the segment, such as the Redmi Note 13 Pro and Poco X6 Pro. It stands out for its unique design, good display with a 120Hz refresh rate, satisfactory performance, long-lasting battery, and quick charging capabilities. The cameras deliver impressive results in daylight. The choice between the Realme 12 Pro 5G and other alternatives may depend on individual preferences for design, camera quality, or performance priorities.
