Apple Temporarily Pauses Foldable Phone Development Due to Screen Testing Snag, Tipster Says

Reports suggest that Apple is venturing into the development of foldable smartphones and/or tablets, marking a potential entry into a segment currently dominated by Android devices.

While Apple has not officially confirmed its foray into this market, recent hints indicate ongoing research and development efforts. However, the company has encountered setbacks in its progress.

According to a post by Weibo user Fixed Digital Focus, Apple procured foldable smartphones from rival brands for analysis but has encountered challenges during screen testing, leading to a delay in the project. Given the significance of display technology in foldable devices, this setback is likely to impact the timeline for the product launch.

Earlier leaks suggested that Apple's first foldable device might not enter mass production until 2026 or 2027, contrary to earlier speculations of a 2024 or 2025 launch. These leaks also hinted at the development of clamshell-style foldable iPhone prototypes, potentially competing with Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip series.

Additionally, Apple is reportedly working on a foldable smartphone or tablet with a screen size ranging from 7.6 to 8.4 inches, surpassing current market offerings. This model could potentially replace the iPad Mini, featuring a larger display than the 8.3-inch Liquid Retina IPS LCD panel found in the 2021 refresh.

While Apple's venture into foldable devices signifies a significant development in the tech industry, the recent challenges may delay the launch of these innovative products.
