Samsung expands AI features to older devices as S23 Series, Z Flip5, Fold5, Tab S9

Samsung has officially announced the rollout of Galaxy AI features to a range of smartphones, including the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Flip5, Galaxy Z Fold5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series.

This update, slated for release by the end of March 2024, will introduce various AI-backed functionalities through the OneUI 6.1 software update, originally debuted on the Galaxy S24 series.

TM Roh, President, and Head of Mobile Experience Business at Samsung Electronics emphasized the company's commitment to democratizing AI and enhancing user experiences through Galaxy AI. Samsung aims to make AI accessible to over 100 million users by the end of 2024, offering these features free of charge until 2025.

While the Galaxy AI features will enrich user experiences, Samsung noted that certain functionalities introduced with the Galaxy S24 series may not be available on previous-generation models.

However, features like Chat Assist, Live Translate, Circle to Search with Google, Note Assist, Browsing Assist, Generative Edit, Edit Suggestion, and Instant Slow-mo will be accessible on previous flagship smartphones, along with the wallpaper generator feature. Notably, the Instant Slow-mo feature will not be available on the Galaxy S23 FE.

Some AI features require users to log in with a Samsung account and maintain an active internet connection. Additionally, services like Chat Assist and Browsing Assist are limited to the Samsung keyboard and web browser, as they are not compatible with third-party apps. Images edited using Generative Edit will have a visual watermark added by Samsung, with AI-edited images supporting resolutions of up to 12 MP.
